There will be a public Open House that DNREC’s Delaware Coastal Programs office and the Town of Slaughter Beach are hosting on Friday, June 3rd (5-8pm) at the Slaughter Beach Fire Hall on Bay Avenue. As fellow Delaware Bay towns, you are welcome to attend this open house to learn more about our Resilient Community Partnership with Slaughter Beach.
This year, DCP selected Slaughter Beach for a Resilient Community Partnership. Under this partnership, DCP is helping the town carry out a comprehensive vulnerability assessment of coastal hazards like flooding to better understand causes, impacts, and future risks. This work will help us identify specific strategies to include in a future hazard adaptation and mitigation plan. We have organized this Open House to gather local input about hazards and impacts. At the fire hall, we will present information about the project and ask participants to share their experiences with flooding, wildfires and excessive heat at different stations. Over the summer we will continue gathering data for our vulnerability assessment, and later this Fall, we will host a public workshop to present our findings and begin to identify adaptation and mitigation options.
Since many Bay towns experience the same coastal hazards, you are invited to observe the workshop, and/or later this summer, to attend a meeting for Bay towns. At this proposed meeting, we will share detailed information about the work we are undertaking and we will offer suggestions and strategies to help Bay towns carry out planning that makes them more resilient to future coastal hazards.
Thank you and hope to see you Friday,
