Date Posted: Tuesday, April 5th, 2016Our little Town of Bowers has a returning pair of Ospreys high up on the Murderkill Range Rear Light tower (just as you enter Bowers Beach….look up!) (There is another nest on the utility pole located outside of the Town of Bowers – off Bower’s Beach Rd. and Old Bower’s Beach Rd.) You can go to the Osprey Watch website to see lots of Osprey watching. It is an excellent web site to keep up-to-date on how your favorite nest is doing! Town of Bowers Website Upgrade – It’s here!

As you can tell, we are now live with the new site and hope you like it. We will be adding much more content soon, so check back often for news, events, and history. Improvements to the highway include a bridge carrying Route 1 over Bowers Beach Road, as well as service roads running adjacent to both sides of Route 1 for access to the existing and proposed developments along the corridor. Bowers Beach Jetty Project Completed
Date Posted: Wednesday, September 30th, 2015Our brand new jetty The Murderkill River North Jetty Rehabilitation Project began the week of September 14 at Bowers Beach and has been completed. The project involved the rehabilitation of the existing concrete filled bag jetty located at the mouth of the Murderkill River Entrance Navigation Channel. Quarry-stone was laid over top of the bags to widen, raise the height and extend the length of the structure bay ward. The work is designed to alleviate the on-going situation of the navigation channel, thereby reducing the frequency of future dredging needs. It is also needed in preparation for the next beach re-nourishment project at Bowers. Andrews, Miller & Associates of Easton, Maryland handled the planning, design, engineering and permitting phase of the project and oversaw the contract and construction management phase as well. Delaware’s Bayshore Byway

Check out the Delaware’s Bayshore Byway Corridor Management Plan to learn about this initiative which includes “Discovery Zones” from New Castle to St. Jones Neck. Efforts are underway to extend the Byway to Lewes which would also include Bowers, Milford, and Milton. In a recent Delaware’s Bayshore Byway Marketing Committee meeting, DelDOT indicated that the nomination of Delaware’s Bayshore Byway to the Federal Highway Administration met the requirements for becoming an All-American Road, the highest category of Byway.
